(WSLS 10) -- It's been a busy day for Virginia State Police troopers all across the Commonwealth.
Troopers responded to two crashes resulting in life-threatening injuries in Wythe and Augusta counties.

The accident in Wythe County happened around 1:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 at the 84 mile marker. A 2005 Hyundai was traveling south on I-81 when it spun out, resulting in a chain-reaction crash involving two tractor-trailers, a pickup truck hauling a trailer and a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The Hyundai Sonata became pinned between the two tractor-trailers. Both women in the car have been transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver of the 2005 Hyundai, James P. O'Reilly, 25, of Seaford, Va., was not injured. O'Reilly was charged with reckless driving.
From just 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. state police responded to 136 traffic crashes statewide.
From 12:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, VSP dispatch centers fielded 1,135 calls for service; 380 of those calls were for traffic crashes and 340 were for disabled vehicles. According to spokesperson Corinne Geller, as of 4:30 p.m. Friday, troopers were on the scene of 96Â crashes and 23Â disabled vehicles across Virginia. Fortunately there have been no traffic fatalities and the majority of the crashes have involved damage to vehicles only.

- Augusta County: At 12:01 p.m., Sr. Trooper J.G. O'Gorek responded to a two-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 340 and Pinball Lane. A 2001 Nissan Frontier was traveling north on Route 340 when it slid out of control and struck a 2007 Ford F-150 traveling south on Route 340. The vehicles collided and ran off the road. The driver of the Nissan Frontier, George D. Brewer Sr., 62, of Crimora, Va., was transported to UVA Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The driver of the F-150 pickup, Charles W. Pace, 73, of Crimora, Va., was transported to Augusta Medical for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts. Photo Attached.
