DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Except for the traffic going by, the hillside at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Camelot Court is quiet. But, in the very near future it could be filled with the sounds of gunshots.
The gun range would be within a few hundred feet of Bonner Middle School and Westwood Middle School.

"It shouldn't be anywhere near a school," Jania Perry, a mother of a young girl, said of the gun range.
She says that as a parent of a young child, it would worry her to send her child to a school that is so close to a gun range.
"Yeah. I mean, I can see having a shooting range for people to learn but I wouldn't want it anywhere near where my daughter goes to school at," Perry stressed.
Last night, the Danville School Board voted unanimously to oppose the construction of the indoor shooting range.
WSLS spoke to the chairman over the phone this afternoon. He said there was no discussion on the issue last night, the board simply took a vote. When asked why they voted the way they did, he said he didn't want to go into detail.
For the shooting range to be built, the city's planning commission would have to grant the owner a special use permit and Danville's police chief would have to approve that the building meets all of the city's codes for an indoor shooting range.
"We would certainly meet with someone [with the gun range] ahead of time, show them what the code requires and tell them that they must comply," said police chief Col. Philip Broadfoot.
The shooting range would also neighbor the Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. No one was available to go on camera today, but one person who spoke to WSLS off camera said they do not want the shooting range to be built there.
A public hearing regarding the range is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday at Danville City Hall.
