Mother of Sandy Hook victim speaks about crisis scenarios

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS10) - A mother who lost her child to gun violence spoke in the New River Valley about what to do in crisis situations.

Michele Gay's child during the Sandy Hook shooting and since then she started Safe and Sound, which is dedicated to improving school safety.

Gay, along with the workers at Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, spoke at the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to principals, law enforcement and mental health specialists about how to heal a community that has been affected by a tragedy like a school shooting.

"It's a daunting task to unify the community after a tragedy and it takes all hands on deck and so we're talking about how to coordinate all the different stake holders and agencies to work together and get our students and families back together if there is a tragedy," said Gay.
