ROANOKE, Va. – Roanoke police say all physical evidence indicates that the body found hanging in a tree Tuesday afternoon was the result of a suicide.

The man found dead was reported missing on Tuesday morning at 8:07 a.m. by a family member. He had been missing since May 6.

The family member who filed the report said the man was in distress and had mentioned hanging himself or others.

Local facilities such as hospitals, care centers and jails were checked in keeping with missing persons protocols, according to police.

The body was found at about 12:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Melrose Avenue NW.

Scott Leamon, with the Roanoke Police Department, says there is no factual basis to support foul play at this time.

Although police have released the victim's name, it is WSLS 10 policy to not identify suicide victims.
