'Food Truck Thursdays' prove popular in Martinsville

Inaugural season wrapped up Thursday at the New College Institute

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – A food truck event in Martinsville is proving to be more popular than expected.

Thursday was the last "Food Truck Thursday" of the season at the New College Institute.

It began in May and was held on the first and last Thursday of each month.

The institute wasn't sure if it would be popular or not, but sometimes hundreds of people showed up.

"People in Martinsville and Henry County learned about different opportunities for them to get food. Some of these businesses around town have booked these food trucks to come during their lunch breaks and sit, like at the industrial park and things like that," said 'Food Truck Thursday' coordinator Stacy Peters.

The institute is now considering expanding the event to the fall and spring.
