Southwest Times cuts back on daily publications

The 112-year-old paper now only prints twice a week

PULASKI COUNTY, Va. – A Pulaski County newspaper that’s been around for 112 years will no longer be printing a daily paper.

The Southwest Times is cutting back from publishing papers five days a week to two: Sundays and Wednesdays.

The general manager says printing costs are just too expensive and the new schedule will give reporters more time to cover local news and readers a thicker paper to enjoy.

“Of course, [readers are] not going to be happy at first," said Vanessa Repass, the general manager. "We’re excited and we’ll hopefully be able to give them enough new stuff to read and enough local stuff to read that they’re going to be excited about it, too.”

The paper announced the change Sunday and this is the first week with the new printing schedule.
