Sheriff believes Bedford County deadly shooting was unintentional

Incident happened on Wheats Valley Road

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. – Bedford County authorities are releasing more information about a deadly shooting on Wednesday evening.

Mathew Paul Beach, 30, of Bedford, died after being shot, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Mike Miller said the initial investigation into the shooting leads him to believe the shooting was unintentional.

He said that the investigation continues at this time as does communication with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

Once the investigation is finished, there will be a final determination as to whether criminal charges will be pursued in reference to this death. 

Miller did say that there is no continuing threat to the public in connection with this shooting.

Authorities in Bedford County said they responded to an incident involving a firearm on Wednesday night.

Bedford County dispatch received a call regarding an incident in the 2800 block of Wheats Valley Road, according to Bedford County Sheriff Mike Miller.

Miller said the investigation is ongoing.

10 News reached out to the Sheriff’s Office for more information and had not heard back as of 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
