Sen. Steve Newman says General Assembly’s budget battle may create a domino effect

A deal must be complete by July 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The General Assembly is still facing unfinished business when it comes to Virginia’s two-year spending plan.

The House and Senate couldn’t come to an agreement on the budget during last week’s special session.

The two sides disagree on how to spend a $14 million surplus.

Republican Senator Steve Newman, who represents our area, says it could have a domino effect.

“Localities soon will be putting together their budget, and they need our numbers to get it done; so, it’s incredibly important that we get the job done soon,” said Sen. Newman.

Lawmakers hope to have a deal in the upcoming weeks. They’re scheduled to return later this month for a one-day veto session. A deal must be complete by July 1.
