Police identify 72-year-old pedestrian hit and killed by tractor-trailer on Route 460 in Bedford County

Happened at about 3:50 a.m. Tuesday



Authorities have identified the man who was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer on Route 460 in Bedford County on Tuesday morning.

Curtis Martin, 72, of Appomattox was identified as the pedestrian who was killed in the crash.

Authorities said Martin was wearing dark clothing and died at the scene.

There are currently no charges pending.


A 72-year-old man was killed after being hit by a tractor-trailer on Route 460 in Bedford County, according to Virginia State Police.

Authorities say the crash happened Tuesday at about 3:50 a.m. near Candle Lane.

Investigators have confirmed that the victim had been walking west on Route 460 in the road at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, Bedford County 911 had received a call about the man shortly before the crash; unfortunately, he was hit before units could respond.

At this time, State Police Troopers are in the process of notifying the victim’s family.
