Salem VA Medical Center renames women’s health clinic to honor local veteran

Master Sgt. Silverine Vinyard James served in the U.S. Army for more than 22 years

SALEM, Va. – A veteran was honored in Salem on Monday.

The Women’s Health Clinic at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center has been renamed after veteran Master Sgt. Silverine Vinyard James.

James retired from the U.S. Army after serving more than 22 years.

Following her retirement, she worked for a short time at the Salem VAMC and has been a patient of the facility for more than four decades.

She said she has no regrets about her time in service.

“I’m overwhelmed. Yes, I gave my country the best part of my life, but this is just unreal,” she said.

Congressman Ben Cline was also at the dedication to congratulate the veteran.
