HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. – The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder-suicide.
On Tuesday at about 1:40 p.m., deputies were called to the 3100 block of Mount Carmel Rd in Alton, Virginia for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found two individuals dead inside the home. The victims were identified as 80-year-old David Yates and 72-year-old Janette Yates.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence and recovered a .38 caliber revolver.
The circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide are unclear at this time.
Authorities say Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, South Boston Police Department as well as the Halifax County Rescue Squad responded to the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
