GILES COUNTY, Va. – An unusual wildlife rescue in Giles County. The first bobcat kitten of the season has arrived at the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center in Roanoke.

In the video above, you can see the female kitten. She weighs about 5 pounds and was found on the side of the road in Pearisburg, dazed and walking in circles.

Staff said the baby bobcat has head trauma and was likely hit by a car.

At this time of year, staff said that bobcat patients are uncommon.

“To get one that is pretty well developed in February is unusual,” Haley Olsen, the SWVA Wildlife Center Director of Operations said. “It’s not unheard of. Bobcats can, especially if weather conditions are favorable, it is possible for them to breed outside of the typical breeding season. But it is unusual.”

The kitten is being treated for its injuries and staff are hopeful it will make a full recovery and one day be released.
