Former Montgomery County superintendent responds to school board

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. – Former Superintendent Dr. Mark Miear is responding after the Montgomery County school board commented on remarks he made in early 2022.

The school board released a statement Tuesday on why they decided to fire Miear.

The board noted concerns that he yelled at an employee with profanity, and inappropriately attempted to exert his authority to school board policy matters impacting his family. Also, the board said they’ve learned of financial management and personnel issues they’re investigating.

10 News reached out to Miear on Wednesday for an interview and received the following response.

“Not at this time. A continuing back and forth over these issues is not productive. My focus is on ways to improve the educational opportunities offered by Montgomery County Public Schools as a candidate for school board. I look forward to presenting my ideas to voters during my upcoming campaign in District B. I’m very excited about the possibility of serving the children of the county in a different capacity,” Miear said.
