10 News investigates the measures school districts are taking to protect staff and students

NELSON COUNTY, Va. – Nelson County Public Schools serves about 1,500 students in two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.

The district had a number of upgrades this year, including:

  • Additional cameras
  • Two-way radios
  • Vape detectors
  • Burglar alarm upgrade
  • Intercom upgrade
  • Security access equipment
  • Anti-ballistic window film
  • Security vestibules added to high school, middle school, and one elementary school
