Starting Feb. 1, airline passengers in Virginia who do not have REAL ID-compliant identification will be required to pay a $45 fee.
The fee must be paid before passengers arrive at TSA checkpoints. It will cover the cost of a modernized alternative identity verification system called TSA Confirm ID.
The verification covers a 10-day travel period, meaning passengers whose return flight falls within that window will only have to pay the fee once for both flights.
