Staunton River Hopes Experience Leads to Improvement
MONETA(WSLS 10 SPORTS)- Another rough and tumble Blue Ridge District squad hoping for a renaissance season is Staunton River. In Moneta..coach Chuck Poston enters his 6th season. He is trying to return to the excitement of the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The Golden Eagles were victorious in fifteen total games and played in four playoff games over those two seasons. Staunton River converted to a single wing attack two seasons ago, and after back to back 2-8 years. the Eagles have the players, with the experience to recapture past playoff prowess.
"Oh I think it's huge(experience) --because things move a lot faster when you move from JV to the varsity and they move real fast when will you play the people that we play in the Blue Ridge, so you get used to that game speed and having that Friday night experience there's nothing to replace that, " explains coach Poston.
Jake Divers, Staunton River's senior tailback agrees-- "Yeah we been working so much harder than we have in the past in the off-season and we have kids that really want to be here, and put in the work to win ---and you don't want to take the taste of winning out of your mouth just want to keep the taste of winning in your mouth and just keep working."
The Golden Eagles open the season on the road at Turner Ashby on August 28th.
