Appomattox County wins fourth title in five years

SALEM, Va. – Appomattox County claimed the Class 2 State Final title with a 42-21 victory win over Stuarts Draft.

The Raiders closed out the game with a late interception in the 4th quarter by Cristian Ferguson. The senior also scored three pivotal touchdowns for the Raiders earlier in the game, helping establish early momentum.

“You could just tell, that we didn’t stop. You could tell how had to get through this year, through all the trials and tribulations, we stuck together. We came closer. We said we weren’t going out like that,” Ferguson said.

“Just to watch them learn to put each other first and make the team the most important and make each other their community. I saw so much love on this team this year and again, that’s what all our great teams have done in the past,” said head coach Doug Smith.

This is now the fourth state title the team has won in the past five seasons.
