National Signing Day: Local athletes put pen to paper to cap senior seasons

ROANOKE, Va. – It was National Signing Day for athletes near and far. At the home of the Vikings, a couple of top tier guys made things official.

John Doak is heading to Concord University to continue his baseball career.

“I feel like the environment, everything about it. I feel like the school, the kids they have up there, the coach, Coach Bailey’s a great coach, love Coach Bailey. And I think going there would just lead me to a successful career,” he said.

Mykell Harvey will be attending North Carolina A&T where he will play football and basketball. For Harvey, the decision to play two sports was a no brainer.

“I think it was very important to me, because I grew up playing both sports, so I just wanted to continue doing what I love to do at the higher level. When they came to my game, that really meant a lot to me because a lot of colleges, they have games the day after, so for them to come to my game and watch me and support me and offer me after that game, it just meant a lot to me, it just stood out,” Harvey said.

LCA’s James Deyo officially committed to Navy. The linebacker and receiver played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs back-to-back Class 3 State Championships.

In Rocky Mount, 8 student athletes put pen to paper.
