A familiar Lynchburg landmark is getting a fresh look. Construction is already underway at City Stadium, where city officials and project partners are rolling out a $5.25 million plan to upgrade fan spaces and bring new family-friendly attractions to the historic ballpark.

Those in the Hill City are getting ready for the 65th Annual Lynchburg Christmas Parade and officials want to make sure community members are aware of the roads that’ll be closed during the holiday event.

Forest, Va. – Tuesday it was the Northside Vikings having their spring football season paused because of Covid. Wednesday, both Jefferson Forest and E.C. Glass are forced to cancel Friday games because of contact tracing. The Jefferson Forest high athletic twitter account confirms the cancelation “in accordance with quarantine guidance from the VDH” (Virginia Department of Health). The Seminole District website has both the Rustburg at EC Glass game scheduled for Friday at City Stadium, and the Jefferson Forest at Liberty Christian Academy game scheduled for Friday at Liberty University--updated to canceled.

LYNCHBURG, Va. Lynchburgs city manager received a well-deserved goodbye after 15 years of service. Bonnie Svcerk is retiring and on Friday, Lynchburg city staff, including police officers, firefighters and others surprised her with a retirement parade at City Stadium. My wish had been that I could ease out of city hall. If I had to do something big in public this was perfect, said Svcerk. Her retirement plans are to start a yarn small business, spend more time with family and be active on three community boards.

The 17-year-old Heritage High School senior and his twin have family flying all the way in from California to watch them graduate. But right after winter break, school district officials told Heritage High School and E.C. Glass High School students they couldn’t have graduation at Liberty University’s Vines Center because it would be under construction at that time. Both high schools already use City Stadium for football games, Coleman thought, why not have graduation there? The change to City Stadium marks the third time the venue for the two graduation ceremonies has changed since late last year.

Mitch Roman led off the inning with a single to right field, and then he advanced to third on back-to-back flyouts. The Hillcats responded right away in their half of the third. Emmanuel Tapia followed with an RBI groundout to give the Hillcats a 2-1 lead, and then Jodd Carter walked to reload the bases. The six-run third inning was most runs that the Hillcats had scored in an inning this season. The Hillcats continue their homestand on Friday night, when they welcome the Potomac Nationals to City Stadium for a three-game series.
