Lawmakers in Virginia are considering legislation that could change the future of fantasy sports in the Commonwealth.

A person familiar with discussions says FanDuel has agreed to pay the Jacksonville Jaguars roughly $5 million to help offset the nearly $20 million that a former employee stole from the NFL franchise and deposited at the sportsbook.

The announcement last week was made in true Las Vegas fashion.

A commercial affiliate of the Major League Baseball Players Association has settled a lawsuit with FanDuel over the alleged unauthorized use of the names and images of MLB players on its sports-betting platform.

A former financial manager for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars who stole $22 million from the team is suing FanDuel for $250 million, saying the betting company preyed on his gambling addiction.

The FanDuel sports book took bets on some mixed martial arts fights on April 1, 2022.

According to the American Gaming Association, DraftKings has online casinos in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan; William Hill has an online casino operation in Michigan, and PointsBet has plans for online casinos in New Jersey and Michigan.

The wait is over for Virginians as online sports betting is now available in the Commonwealth. On Thursday, FanDuel, a popular online sportsbook, is able to be used by Virginians.
