The legislation that ended the longest government shutdown in U.S. history could upend a multi-billion-dollar industry due to a provision banning the vast majority of hemp products.

It's been one month since Virginia’s new hemp law went into effect. The law requires hemp products cannot exceed 0.3% THC and if it does it must have a 25:1 CBD to THC ratio.

Retailers and manufacturers will be able to exceed a two milligram THC cap as long as there is a 25:1 CBD to THC ratio.

The bill would regulate the amount of THC Virginia hemp retailers could have in their products – HB 2294, which was passed in this year’s legislative session.

The bill would ban businesses from selling any products with more than 2 milligrams of THC.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. – We’re learning more about the potential economic impact the state’s first large-scale hemp processing plant could have on southwest Virginia. Blue Ribbon Extraction’s facility in South Boston could process more than $100 million worth of hemp and create dozens of jobs. As 10 News reported, the company announced plans Thursday to initially buy $70 million worth of hemp and create 22 jobs over the next three years.
