Kentuckyโ€™s John Calipari is one of several coaches across college basketball who have said they would like to know if Johnsonโ€™s collapse was related to his positive COVID-19 test months earlier.

USA Today quoted Johnson's grandfather, Larry DeJarnett, as saying the player had been in a medically induced coma. There was no change in Johnson's condition from Saturday, when he was also critical but stable at Tallahassee Memorial. The Gators announced that Johnson was in critical and stable condition less than an hour after his ordeal. The American Hospital Association defines patients in critical but stable condition as having โ€œvital signs that are unstable and not within normal limits. Like many of his Florida teammates, Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 during the summer.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. โ€“ Florida coach Mike White declined to do any postgame media interviews. Johnson, the Southeastern Conference's preseason player of the year, collapsed coming out of a timeout against rival Florida State and needed emergency medical attention Saturday. Johnson was taken off the floor on a stretcher and rushed to Tallahassee Memorial for evaluation. The team said he was in critical but stable condition and later said he would remain in the hospital overnight. Johnson, a 6-foot-5 junior from Norfolk, Virginia, averaged a team-high 14 points last season to go along with 7.1 rebounds.

The theory that NFL teams would go with three quarterbacks to start the pandemic-impacted season took a hit Saturday. Lots of third-stringers were sent packing as the 32 teams got down to the 53-man limit. "The most important thing is to kind of move forward and not look back, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said. Georgia linebacker Tae Crowder, the final player taken in April's draft, is on the roster. As a child growing up in Georgia, it was always my dream to play in the NFL, Watson wrote on social media.
