The 19th annual “Guns N Hoses” charity ice hockey game is returning to the Berglund Center on Jan. 28.

Through Oct. 23, you might see some Lynchburg firefighters around the city raising funds for their annual “Fill the Boot” campaign, according to the Lynchburg Fire Department.

LOS ANGELES Kevin Hart will host the return of a popular telethon once spearheaded by the late Jerry Lewis to fight muscular dystrophy. The Muscular Dystrophy Association announced Wednesday that Hart will host the MDA Kevin Hart Kids Telethon. Hart said the telethons return is an incredible opportunity to bring back the work of Lewis, who helped make the Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon a television tradition for decades. Lewis stepped down as host in 2011 and the association held its last telethon three years later. She hopes the telethon can continue to help raise awareness to therapies for muscular dystrophy and other related neuromuscular diseases.

SALEM, Va. – The 16th annual Guns ’N Hoses softball game contested Friday night at the Salem Memorial Ballpark did not disappoint. The Police built a lead in this game, but the Firefighters stormed back with a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 9th. The “Hoses” extinguished the “Guns” 10-9 in the annual grudge match. The firefighters versus police event raises money for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association. “It’s going to be great camaraderie between us and the cops,” 1st Lieutenant C.J.

ROANOKE, Va. - The Fill the Boot campaign benefiting people living with muscular dystrophy in Roanoke is a family affair for some and personal for others. Local firefighters and other volunteers were out at Valley View Mall on Saturday, braving the heat, to collect donations on a busy shopping day. "The Muscular Dystrophy Association does great work. He met Roanoke firefighters at a camp years ago. The firefighters and volunteers will be back out taking donations Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Valley View Mall.
