Winter weather alerts
ROANOKE, Va. – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 9 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday for the Highlands and southern Shenandoah, including Highland, Bath, Allegheny, Rockbridge, and portions of Nelson counties. Meanwhile, ice storm warnings are in place for Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties in West Virginia. This advisory anticipates freezing rain that could impact these regions at times from Wednesday through Wednesday night. But the precipitation we see will be light and frankly, most of us will just see a cold rain.
Expect changes ahead
As we move into Wednesday, prepare for a shift in conditions. Not only will we see some rain/freezing rain, but temperatures will start in the 30s and stay in the 30s all day long. It will no doubt be a shock to the system as today many of us made into the 60s! But, this cool-down will be short-lived. By Thursday we are right back in the 60s again. We’ll have the chance for some lingering showers on Thursday too. Friday will be drier with a little more sun in the forecast.
Unsettled weather looks to return this weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday will have the chance for some rain. As of now, the best chance for rain both days looks to lie in the morning. We will be cooler on Saturday than on Sunday. And as we look ahead into next week, we could not only have the chance for more rain, but also some snow may mix in too by late Tuesday into Wednesday. So, please stay tuned. Temperatures next week look to be colder than what we had this week.
