WYTHE CO. (WSLS 10) -- A Wythe Co. doctor who said he was stabbed at the Fort Chiswell Medical Clinic on Wednesday has admitted to investigators no one attacked him. Instead, he stabbed himself.
Dr. Paul Williams is now charged with making a false report.
Investigators say Williams gave inconsistent statements about the alleged crime. When authorities confronted him with evidence that suggested he may have stabbed himself, Williams confessed it was all a lie.
According to investigators, Williams told them he felt he would be fired or forced to resign. He also told them the terms of his contract said if he didn't fulfill the last year of his contract he would owe $120,000 to his employer, the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Williams said he though the stabbing incident would get him sympathy from his employers.
