New Martinsville arcade creates economic boost for city

Owner says arcade is 'something that is needed' in Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE – An arcade in Martinsville is proving to be a big economic boost for the city.

Uptown Pinball has only been open for a week and owner Mike Haley said people have already come from out of state just to play some of the rare pinball machines.

The arcade also features other popular arcade games.

Haley said people have also been calling to try to book parties there.

The games are free to play, all you have to do is pay $12 to get in.

Customers also get a free drink and a bag of chips with admission and can stay as long as they want.

With a receipt from Mtn' Jax Restaurant, a couple of doors down from the arcade, customers get $2 off arcade admission.

"We wanted to bring it up town because we could. It seemed like the place to be. There's restaurants up here. It's on a turn. I really think it's on a turn. I think that the city is coming back," Haley said excitedly.

Haley doesn't care about making a profit, he just hopes to make enough money to be able to buy a new game every couple of months.
