Ollie's Bargain Outlet opens at old Toys R Us in Roanoke

Denny Hamlin visits Roanoke to sign autographs

ROANOKE, Va. – Shoppers in the Star City now have a new option to find "Good stuff cheap." Ollie's Bargain Outlet held its grand opening this morning at its new Roanoke location, on Valley View Boulevard.

People were racking up the bargains from the moment the doors opened at 9 a.m. Known as the home of brand-name closeouts, salvage merchandise and more, Ollie's has grown in popularity in the area. The Roanoke store is the 20th in the Commonwealth. In addition to the cheap prices, it has brought new job opportunities. Shoppers also had an opportunity meet NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.

"It's great to be in the area with Roanoke," said Ollie's district team leader Jason Shaffer.

"We've enjoyed our time in Salem, and it's opened up more jobs in this local area. We hired 60 people for this location, and it extends us to 280 stores in the country in 22 states," Shaffer said.

"It's great to come up here," said Hamlin.

"The Ollie's folks have been so great to us, and when we heard about the opportunity with the store opening, it was a good fit for me to come here and sign some autographs."

It took just 33 days for the store to move into the old Toys R Us building.
