Highland County Maple Festival returns this weekend!

It was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19

HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. – Thousands will head to Highland County this weekend for the 62nd annual Highland County Maple Festival.

We had the chance to talk with Doug Puffenbarger the owner of Puffenbarger’s Sugar Orchard about his excitement for the festival’s return.

“We’re kind of excited to get the people back because for the past two years, it’s been a lot of phone calls and internet sales and shipping, thanks to my wife, who takes care of that end of it,” said Puffenbarger.

With it being a county-wide festival, if you’re looking for something to plug into your GPS, here are three great options:

  • 165 W. Main Street, Monterey
  • 161 Mansion House, McDowell
  • 2558 Blue Grass Valley Road, Blue Grass

Did you know that in 2014, Virginia’s governor signed a bill into law designating the festival as the “official maple festival of Virginia?”

If you miss it this weekend, you’ll also be able to catch it on March 19 and 20.
