LFD said crews determined that the leak was coming from Westover Dairy a few hundred yards away on Fort Avenue. Officials said it was determined that a waste line that sends the milk to the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant had become blocked, and waste milk was overflowing into the storm sewer and the creek.

We’re told the drain line was unclogged and the overflow stopped, but it isn’t known how much milk was released into the stream.

The city’s Water Resources Department and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management have been notified of the problem. LFD said there is no health threat to the public.
