Man killed in crash on I-581 in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va.Update:

Virginia State Police confirmed that a man died and another person was injured in a crash last night on Interstate 581 in Roanoke.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. on March 5, on the southbound lanes of I-581 near the entrance ramp to Valley View Mall.

According to authorities, Anthony Lee Spencer, 38, of Roanoke, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a high rate of speed, changing lanes, when he hit the rear of a 2011 Ford Explorer.

The driver of the Ford was injured and taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene, and the crash remains under investigation.

This crash has been cleared, according to VDOT.

A vehicle crash on I-581 in Roanoke County is causing delays Thursday night, according to VDOT. All south lanes are closed and traffic backups are approximately 0.5 miles.
