Lynchburg shooting victims were high school students

Juvenile suspect taken into custody

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg authorities say one person is dead and another hospitalized after a shooting at the Meadows Apartments Thursday evening. 

Both were E.C. Glass High School students. 

Officers arrived around 7:30 p.m. to find two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The first victim, 18-year old Dre’yon Ty’Shean Browley, died after being taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.

The second victim, also an 18-year old Lynchburg resident as yet unnamed, is listed in critical but stable condition at LGH.

The suspect was captured in Campbell County three hours after the shooting by Lynchburg PD with assistance from the Campbell County Sheriff's office.

The suspect is a juvenile and has been charged with murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of the use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The Meadows Apartments are on Yorktown Avenue, in the same neighborhood as E.C. Glass High School. 

The high school will have additional support on site to help students and staff. A spokesperson for Lynchburg City Schools released this statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with family and friends."
