ROANOKE, Va. - A 31-year-old man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Roanoke on Wednesday night.

Victor Bray, of Roanoke, was shot and killed by a Roanoke police officer after Bray shot at a woman, according to state police.

Neither the woman nor the Roanoke officer was injured in the shooting.

Wednesday night's shooting remains under investigation by state police.

UPDATE

One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Northeast Roanoke.

It happened around 10 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2600 Block of Fairfield Drive.

Police tell 10 News that the officer was responding to a call for a domestic incident.

When he arrived, the man was on the front porch with a gun. A woman was also on the porch and they were involved in what police are describing as "an active disorder." The officer asked the man to drop the weapon multiple times. He refused and did fire a shot, according to police. Police say the officer then fired killing the suspect.

The woman was not hurt and neither was the officer.

Police are not identifying the deceased man or the officer at this time.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard for this type of incident.

The investigation will now be taken over by Virginia State Police.

In January, the Roanoke City Police Department announced a new policy that would refer all cases involving lethal force or in-custody deaths to state police.

While this is the first officer-involved shooting death to fall under this policy, it's the second case to fall under it. State police had opened an investigation into the death of Clifton Watts, who died in the back of a police car after breaking into a home in the Northwest area and fighting with two women. It was later determined that Watts died from acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication.

The Roanoke Peacemakers, a nonprofit that aims to reduce violent crime in the city, issued the following statement: "This is a sad situation when someone lost their lives but that situation is out of control. We are not the police and we would not have been able to change the situation even if we were there...we are sending our thoughts and condolences to the family."
