The revenue generated from this year’s event is up 3.6 percent from last year.

"We’re thrilled to support an event that brings so much to the region’s economy,” Foot Levelers CEO Kent S. Greenawalt said. “It’s exciting to be part of something that focuses the spotlight on the Roanoke region, its local business, outdoor activities and generous people.”

Foot Levelers hosted 1,859 runners from 43 states and eight countries including: Albania, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Mongolia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

A post-race festival and concert coincided with the Down by Downtown Music Festival at Elmwood Park that was headlined by Lotus.

“The event is more than the bucket-list race it is earning a reputation for; it’s a great way to engage a healthy and active community right here at home,” said Pete Eshelman, of the Roanoke Outside Foundation. “More than 30 organizations and sponsors, 600 volunteers, and countless spectators come together for the Blue Ridge Marathon each spring, welcoming people from all over the nation and world to our community.”

The event has generated nearly $4 million over the past eight years. The 2018 races are scheduled for April 21.
