Virginia Tech softball beats Liberty, Rochard earns 1,000th strikeout

Flames’ 14-game win streak snapped

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 2 Virginia Tech Hokies earned an 8-1 win against in-state opponent Liberty. Senior pitcher Keely Rochard also reached 1,000 strikeouts in the midweek matchup in the Hill City.

Tuesday’s attendance was the second highest in Liberty Softball Stadium history, with 1,114 spectators on hand. Liberty’s 14-game win streak was snapped in the loss.

The Hokies outhit the Flames 13-3 in the game and jumped to an early 3-0 lead. Liberty scored its lone run in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI double from Alexis Soto.

Virginia Tech picked up four insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, including home runs from Mackenzie Lawter and Cameron Fagan. The Hokies will now prep for rival Virginia who will come to Blacksburg for a three game series this weekend.
