The Associated Press declared that Republican Sen. Ted Cruz successfully defended his seat against Democratic Rep. Colin Allred based on the incumbentโ€™s competitive showing in the stateโ€™s large population centers, bolstered by his overwhelming leads in more conservative rural areas across the state.

FILE - In this March 31, 2020 file photo, a leaning sign sits in front of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas. โ€œThereโ€™s no other way to claim it than a Biden border crisis.โ€Texas Gov. The memo sent to Dallas City Council members says the Federal Emergency Management Agency and HHS will โ€œbe responsible for providing shelter management and contractsโ€ for food, security, cleaning, and medical care at the convention center. Dallas previously offered space to HHS during the 2014 surge of crossings of immigrant children. HHS also has said it will house immigrant youths in Midland.

BRUSSELS โ€“ NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday that the military alliance is grappling with a dilemma over its future in Afghanistan, as the United States starts pulling troops out while attacks by the Taliban and extremist groups mount. Or stay, and risk a longer mission, with renewed violence,โ€ Stoltenberg told reporters on the eve of a videoconference between NATO foreign ministers. European diplomats expect the tone to change under Biden, but probably not the U.S. intention to leave Afghanistan as soon as possible. โ€œWe have seen over the last months and weeks several attacks,โ€ Stoltenberg said. Ambassador to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison said: โ€œWe do not think the Taliban is keeping its word under the agreement.

US NATO allies still short on defense spending aims

Read full article: US NATO allies still short on defense spending aims

BRUSSELS โ€“ U.S. allies in Europe and Canada have increased defense spending for a sixth consecutive year but most of them will still fail to achieve a NATO spending ambition by the target date of 2024, according to new figures being discussed by defense ministers on Thursday. That year, the allies pledged to halt the cuts and move toward spending 2% of their gross domestic product on defense by 2024. According to the new data, France and Norway are forecast to join eight other countries spending at least 2% of their GDP on defense this year. The figures were being discussed Thursday by NATO defense ministers at a two-day videoconference. Since coming to office in 2016, U.S. President Donald Trump has had an almost obsessional focus on defense spending and berated allies for falling short.
