The water levels at Philpott Lake are in good shape despite drought conditions continuing to affect other lakes in the region, like Smith Mountain Lake, according to the lake’s Operation Project Manager, Chris Powell.

On Dec. 3 at 6 p.m., the Wilmington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will hold a virtual public meeting asking for public input on the proposed update to the Philpott Lake Master Plan. The proposed update will provide guidance for the coordinated utilization and management of Philpott Lake’s project lands. An online survey, looking at the Philpott Lake master plan update’s community priorities and preferences, is now open. USACE is asking people to take the time to share their thoughts and concerns to help the planning team with this master plan update. Following the December meeting, a second virtual public meeting, scheduled for May 2021, will facilitate a forum for the discussion of project related interests.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. - A missing person report resulted in deputies finding 73-year-old man dead in Philpott Lake Tuesday. At about 10 a.m. Tuesday, members of Coleman Hale's family reported him missing to the Franklin County Sheriffs Office. His truck and boat trailer had been spotted at Ryans Branch Recreational Area on Philpott Lake Tuesday morning. Currently, the Sheriff's Office says there is nothing suspicious about his death. Members of the Franklin County Sheriffs Office, Franklin County Department of Public Safety, Henry County Sheriffs Office, Patrick County Sheriffs Office, Philpott Lake Corps of Engineers and Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries took part in the search.
