Officials announced Wednesday that pre-k through second-grade students will return for in-person instruction four days a week starting on Tuesday, April 13. The students will return to in-person instruction four days a week from Tuesday-Friday with Monday as a remote learning day for all. โWe anticipate that for the Fall, we will have an in-person learning opportunity for our students five days a week,โ said Pugh. 10 News asked about it during Wednesdayโs news conference, and school leaders said they are looking into it.

Those 150 school employees were vaccinated at E.C. Crystal Edwards, school superintendent, said LCS tiered the 800 employees interested in getting the vaccine. โAll those who are standing in front of our kids, transporting our kids, feeding our kids; those are the people we are prioritizing today,โ said Edwards.

Lynchburg fire marshals said a heater caused the fire inside a second-grade classroom. Although it was contained to one room, excessive smoke damage caused a greater issue. โThere was some, I think, paper material and some plastic [near the heater], and thatโs where most of the smoke damage came from, was the plastic burning,โ said Gatzek. Students were already on a hybrid schedule, but have switched to remote learning full-time โ at least through the holidays.

The Lynchburg Education Association responded with three major concerns:Safety for Lynchburg City Schools staff and the people they live with. โItโs made it much more difficult than it needed to be," said Lynchburg Education Association President Karl Loos, who teaches at Dunbar Middle School.

Its not a final plan its a draft plan after five months. Then those in the sixth grade up until high school will be learning virtually until theyre allowed face to face learning at a later date. Glass High School students were welcomed back with cheers Wednesday morning. Police tell 10 News there was a disorderly incident at the McDonald's restaurant down the street from the high school Thursday that eventually spilled into the hallways Friday morning. Then on Monday night, police said, a school shooting threat was posted on social media. The atmosphere was a learning look like they were all about learning, said James Camm, with One Community One Voice.

Last year, Lynchburg City Schools had about 8,200 students enrolled and nearly 1,300 students missed 18 days or more. "It doesn't sound like a lot to a parent, 'My child just missed two days of school a month.'
