Multiple residents have been displaced, and several animals were killed as a result of a mobile home fire that occurred in Thaxton on Saturday, Stewartsville-Chamblissburg Volunteer Fire Department said.

Linemen Jeff Dotson, Cameron Lacy and Tyler Blair had just so happened to be working at the time and were observing the water levels when they noticed a motorist trying to cross a flooded bridge.

Fires have been popping up all throughout Southwest Virginia and a big reason is weather.

Crews are on the scene of a large brush fire in the Thaxton area of Bedford County.

VDOT spent Monday cutting down trees that had fallen over the weekend because of storms.

BEDFORD, Va. - After scattered storms on Saturday afternoon, strong gusts of wind knocked over tree onto a family's home in Thaxton. No one was injured, but the home was crushed under the fallen tree. The American Red Cross Association was on the scene ready to help the family.
