FLOYD (WSLS) - Floyd County students get back to school Tuesday, and they already have some projects waiting for them on the new school farm.

It is one of only a few in the state, and it will allow high school students to work with crops, livestock and even honey bees. The goal is to sell crops to farmers markets and the school cafeteria so that the farm can become financially self-sustaining.

School leaders say the farm's biggest asset is the real-world experience it will provide to the students. They hope this will prepare and encourage kids to pursue agriculture careers in Floyd County when they graduate.

Students from eighth to twelfth grade will have access to the farm, and they will begin harvesting crops in just a few weeks.
