1 in 4 Virginians have unclaimed property, like gift certificates, unpaid wages, or uncashed checks, waiting to be claimed. February 1 is National Unclaimed Property Day, the Virginia Department of Treasury is holding the Unclaimed Property Call Event Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Virginia Money Search is holding its annual VA Treasury Unclaimed Property Auction just in time for your holiday shopping.

There’s $2 billion worth of unclaimed property in Virginia, and chances are some of it belongs to you. One in four Virginians has unclaimed property. 10 News is once again partnered with the Virginia Department of Treasury Unclaimed Property division to reconnect you with your unclaimed property. Over the course of Thursday and Friday, ‘Find Your Money’ search 1,174 names and found $102,000. This money can come from forgotten accounts, life insurance policies, uncashed payroll or refund checks, unclaimed stocks and dividends or tangible items from safe deposit boxes.

Since we began this project four years ago, we’ve found our viewers nearly $900,000.
