BOTETOURT COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Saturday, July 11th golfers will tee off for the first ever Honor Tour Tournament at Ashley Plantation.

Through the tournament the goal is to raise $8,000 to send dozens of local veterans on an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC to visit national war memorials.

General Manager of Ashley Plantation, Peter Gardner, came up with the idea after hearing on the news about a similar fundraiser out west.

"It's very simple, if the veterans didn't do what they do, we couldn't all do what we do, we couldn't enjoy golf, recreation, our daily lives if they didn't do what they did for us, so, very easy to think to give back to them is a no-brainer in my mind," Gardner said.

Even if you don't play golf you can still help make the trip a reality.

Simply call the Ashley Plantation clubhouse and sponsor a veteran for $250.
