Cleanup underway after Danville apartment fire

DANVILLE (WSLS10)-- The cleanup process continues in Danville after an apartment fire on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the apartments on Arnett Boulevard just before 5 p.m. When they arrived, they saw fire and smoke coming from a second story unit. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control and damage was contained to one apartment.

All 12 units in the building were tested for carbon monoxide, a byproduct of smoke and fire. Carbon monoxide was found in most of the second floor apartments, which were ventilated with positive pressure fans.

The Red Cross helped 14 of the people that live in the complex for one night. All but two of the apartments should be liveable by the weekend.

The fire was started by unattended cooking.
