Lynchburg Police arrest man after car chase ends in crash

LYNCHBURG – UPDATE: The driver of the stolen vehicle has been identified as 19-year-old Jamel Malik Jennings of Lynchburg.

Jennings is charged with grand larceny, felony eluding police, reckless driving, and driving while having a suspended license. He is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail.

Police say the vehicle was first reported stolen to the police just before 7 a.m. Two hours later, Lynchburg Police got a tip about the vehicle in the Rivermont Avenue area.

Officers attempted to stop the driver, who took off and lost control in the 1500 block of Monsview Place and hit a telephone pole.

Both the pole and the vehicle were damaged.

The driver was not hurt and was taken into custody.

An investigation is ongoing and there is no word on charges.
