Man arrested for reportedly running away from authorities after driving wrong way on Rt. 460

NARROWS, Va.UPDATE

A man is in custody after he ran away from authorities during a traffic stop, according to the Giles County Sheriff's Office.

Terry Hungate, 23, of Blacksburg, is facing charges in Giles County for reckless driving as well as outstanding charges in Montgomery County for misdemeanor destruction of property and misdemeanor assault. 

Deputies say they received a complaint Wednesday of someone driving the wrong way down Rt. 460 between Rich Creek and Narrows. Authorities then found a driver going eastbound in the westbound lane. 

A deputy stopped the car, but Hungate ran away from authorities in the direction of the New River. He was found and arrested at Burger King at 5:45 a.m. in Narrows and arrested. 

Hungate is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail on the charges out of Montgomery County. 

Authorities say this investigation and there may be more charges.

Authorities are searching for a man after a traffic stop led to a police chase on foot. 

According to the Giles County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened in Narrows late Wednesday night. 

Authorities say that after stopping near the Semco plant on Virginia Avenue near the New River, the man abandoned his car and took off, leading deputies on an extended chase. 

Deputies believe he was picked up and taken from the scene. 

The incident is still under investigation.
