18-year-old indicted in death of Virginia police officer

A second officer and civilian were severely injured

HENRICO, Va. – An 18-year-old was indicted after a crash in Henrico that resulted in the death of a Henrico police officer, WWBT reports.

Trey Sutton, 24, was the officer killed on March 30.

We previously reported that at 8:30 p.m., a Dodge pick-up truck hit a police car that was crossing the intersection of Chamberlayne Road and Wilkinson Road. Another vehicle was also hit.

A second officer and civilian who was being arrested were severely injured.

Jeffrey Lankford was indicted by a grand jury for involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving, according to Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor.

Lankford was released from court Monday on his personal recognizance.

He will return to court on Oct. 26.
