VDOT starting much-anticipated Amherst County sidewalk project

Scheduled to be complete by November

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. – Construction on a much-anticipated sidewalk project is getting underway in Amherst County.

VDOT crews will begin working along Route 29 Business in Madison Heights, between Route 1054, Lakeview Drive, and Route 682, Woody’s Lake Road. The sidewalks will be built in four phases, along both lanes.

Paula Jones, a VDOT spokesperson representing Amherst County, told 10 News this is a way of improving safety in the area.

“This is an area where the pedestrian traffic has increased significantly over the years, with an increase in the number of businesses in the area, and housing along the side streets,” said Jones.

The project costs about $2 million and is scheduled to be complete by November 2021.
