Roanoke County bridge replacement project delayed to summer

Once work begins, traffic on Diuguids Lane will be detoured onto Mill Lane or West Riverside Drive for 45 days

SALEM, Va. – A previously announced 45-day road closure with a detour needed to replace the Route 760 (Diuguids Lane) bridge over the Roanoke River in Roanoke County will be rescheduled, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials.

Residents were notified in November 2021 about the detour planned for late January or early February 2022, but it has been pushed back until July 2022.

“The pre-stressed concrete beams that are needed to build the new bridge have been delayed. Their fabrication and production has been delayed, so we’ll have to reschedule that detour,” explained spokesman Jason Bond.

The bridge is located at the Salem city limits near Route 760′s intersection with Route 639 (West Riverside Drive).

Once work begins, traffic on Diuguids Lane will be detoured onto Mill Lane or West Riverside Drive for 45 days.

Signs and message boards will be posted prior to the closure. In addition, signs will be in place to alert drivers to the detour route.
