RPD identifies victim of fatal pedestrian crash on Jan. 14, driver not facing criminal charges

ROANOKE, Va. Update:

RPD has identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash in Roanoke on Jan. 14.

According to RPD, a preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian stepped into eastbound lanes of traffic on Melrose Ave. from the parking lot outside of the convenience store.

The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation and is not facing any charges in this incident.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old April Dawn Ragan of Roanoke.

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred at the intersection of Melrose Ave. and Peck Street NW Tuesday evening.

According to the RPD the crash occurred at 6:10 p.m. and a woman died at the scene. Details remain limited at this time but RPD said that the striking vehicle remained on the scene.

The intersection is closed as the investigation continues.
