ROANOKE, Va. – The Virginia Museum of Transportation’s push to gain state agency status has been halted again.
Agency status would provide the museum with more consistent funding and allow for facility upgrades.
Governor Youngkin’s 2025 budget amendment proposal included a 1-year delay of a study that would approve this change.
“Our hope is that by achieving state agency status, we are not only going to be a tourism hub for the Roanoke area and the Valley, but we’re also going to be able to project into all these educational situations all throughout the state.”
Tom Cox, Executive Vice President for the Virginia Museum of Transportation
The museum remains patient and will continue working towards the study.
For now, it continues to rely on admissions, grants, and private contributions to support its operations.
