Virginia sees 1,332 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 170,104 statewide

There are now 3,524 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of October 22, Virginia is now reporting 170,104 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Thursday’s total of 170,104 marks an increase from Wednesday’s total of 168,772 cases.

Here is a breakdown of the 1,332 new coronavirus cases in Virginia:

  • 166 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 97 new cases in Prince William County
  • 57 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 55 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 46 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 40 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 39 new cases in Roanoke
  • 38 new cases in Henrico County
  • 32 new cases in Montgomery County
  • 31 new cases in Richmond
  • 26 new cases in Chesapeake and Franklin County
  • 25 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 24 new cases in Norfolk
  • 23 new cases in Newport News
  • 22 new cases in Bedford County
  • 21 new cases in Portsmouth
  • 20 new cases in Arlington County, Salem and Stafford County
  • 18 new cases in Alexandria and Albemarle County
  • 17 new cases in Washington County and Hanover County
  • 16 new cases in Danville
  • 15 new cases in Campbell County and Warren County
  • 12 new cases in Radford and Spotsylvania County
  • 11 new cases in Fauquier County and Russell County
  • 10 new cases in Petersburg, Scott County, Carroll County, Appomattox County and Tazewell County
  • 9 new cases in Harrisonburg, Henry County and Lee County

  • 7 new cases in Hampton, Charlottesville, Martinsville, Manassas, Isle of Wight County, Lancaster County, Fredericksburg and Botetourt County
  • 6 new cases in Waynesboro, Amherst County, Dinwiddie County, Mecklenburg County and Emporia
  • 5 new cases in Shenandoah County, Winchester, Hopewell, Bristol, Pittsylvania County, Augusta County and Manassas Park
  • 4 new cases in Sussex County, Grayson County, Staunton, Buchanan County, Patrick County, Dickenson County, Goochland County and Floyd County
  • 3 new cases in Prince George County, Frederick County, Halifax County, Smyth County, Prince Edward County, Suffolk, Page County, Wythe County, Fluvanna County, Surry County, Middlesex County, Gloucester County, Mathews County, Nelson County and Alleghany County
  • 2 new cases in New Kent County, James City County, Brunswick County, Pulaski County, Orange County, Giles County, Richmond County, Southampton County, Colonial Heights, Galax, Craig County and Accomack County
  • 1 new case in Buckingham County, Northampton County, York County, Poquoson, King William County, Essex County, Clarke County, Powhatan County, Nottoway County, Northumberland County, Bath County, Norton, Madison County and Cumberland County
  • King George County, Falls Church and Fairfax all decreased by one case

As of Thursday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 2,641,286 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
